MINI launches the all-electric Cooper SE for £24,400

Car manufacturer MINI has unveiled the Cooper SE, an all-electric hatchback packing the same powertrain as the BMW i3S. Prices begin at £24,400 in Great Britain, with the fully featured version available for £30,400.

The new MINI Cooper SE comes powered by a single electric motor with 184 hp (137 kW) and 270 Nm (200 pound-feet) of torque. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.3 seconds and maxes out at 150 km/h (93 mph). Its 32.6 kWh battery translates into a driving range somewhere between 235 and 270 kilometers (146 and 168 miles, respectively). You may charge the car using your household wall socket (takes 3.5 hours) or a high-power station (35 minutes).

The MINI Cooper SE has but a few exterior traits to tell it from its gas-powered counterparts. There are reshaped side mirrors, new bumpers, 18 millimeters (0.7 inches) of extra ride height, and a solid faux grille at the front end – that would be all.

The cabin notably houses a new 5.5-inch digital dashboard and an electronic parking brake. The rest remains identical to the non-electric series.

Options include a high-end multimedia system with a display measuring 6.5 or 8.8 inches across, cruise control, two-zone climate control, satellite navigation, wireless gadget charging, and LED headlights.
