MINI Cooper SE gets a JCW version, but misses out on the extra grunt

MINI has introduced the next trim version of its battery-powered Cooper SE: the John Cooper Works, or JCW Trim. As per the tradition, it brings along stylistic enhancements and some premium options, but the drivetrain stays the same this time around.

In its flagship guise, the Cooper SE boasts an aggressive aero kit on a body finished in black, red and white. It rides on 18-inch wheels and gets new LED light signatures.

A peek inside reveals an exclusive trim scheme with a checkerboard flag ornament on the dash. The infotainment UI is also different.

Feature-wise, the car now supports a new mode called Go-kart, like the recently revealed Countryman JCW. Once enabled, it drowns the interior in red ambient light and shortens the throttle response times. The only new assist feature is remote self-parking.

All Cooper SE hatchbacks (watch the video for the standard version) come with two powertrain options to choose from, but the JCW trim locks you out of the cheaper option. The car gets a single e-motor with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque and sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds.
