MINI Countryman grows serious rally chops

X-Raid, the team that won the Rally Dakar five times, has unveiled a very special conversion of the mundane MINI Countryman. The crossover SUV gained plenty of off-road potential along with a protective body kit.

The suspension benefits from a range of improvements, including a 40-mm (1.6-inch) ride height boost. The ground clearance therefore amounts to 195 mm (7.6 inches), improving the approach and departure angles, as well as the traversable water depth. Exterior mods include new wheels, aluminum roof rails and assorted stickers.

Nothing is being revealed about the engine. The source spec is a Countryman Cooper S, which uses a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four rated at 192 PS (190 hp / 142 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque.
