The third Mini Countryman generation is already in development and should be ready by 2022 or 2023. In the meantime, a pre-production example has been spotted on the streets looking much larger than the current model (watch the official video ad and compare for yourself).
Apart from straying ever farther from its ‘mini’ credo, the car seems to be running on electricity now. This makes it a competitor of the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Mercedes–Benz EQA.
The current-gen Mini Countryman has UKL underpinnings, while its successor switches to FAAR, a platform that lends itself equally well for EVs, hybrids and ICE cars, according to BMW. This also implies that the new generation will go into production at the BMW Leipzig factory in Germany.
