New MINI Countryman shaping up to be the fastest MINI ever

The upcoming Countryman PHEV will utilize the same FAAR chassis as the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and XI and will enter production in Leipzig, Germany.

The car will use a 1.5-liter petrol three-cylinder turbo and an electric motor to drive the wheels with 322 PS (318 hp / 237 kW), making it the most powerful MINI production car on record. The manufacturer promises us up to 88 kilometers (55 miles) of all-electric range and a full charging cycle of two and a half hours from a regular wall socket.

In all likelihood, the specifications given only apply to the top trim. Other rumored specs include a 241-PS (238 hp / 177 kW) PHEV, a 2.0-liter turbo diesel, and petrol engines coming in 1.5L and 2.0L variants.

All petrol engines will be assisted by 48-volt engine starters for efficiency. Using the FAAR platform will enable the automaker to make the Countryman larger, putting it on par with the likes of Nissan Qashqai and Toyota RAV4.
