3rd-gen MINI Countryman touches down in Europe

MINI has unveiled the third generation of its CUV named Countryman. The production will start in Leipzig, Germany before the end of the year.

At 4,433 mm long, 1,843 mm wide and 1,656 mm tall with 2,692 of wheelbase, the new soft-roader is much longer and taller than its predecessor. It has the same recognizable body shape, but the outlines are smoother and simpler than before. The interior is as laconic as that of the simultaneously revealed Cooper hatchback.

In its most basic from, the car will be driven by an electric motor with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The sprint time is a sluggish 8.6 seconds. Opting for a top spec named Countryman S ALL4 gets you dual motors, 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW) and 494 Nm (364 lb-ft) of torque for a sprint time of 5.6 seconds.

The top speed will not exceed 180 km/h (112 mph), and the battery is medium-sized at 66.45 kWh. Charging it from a 130kW DC source will fill it from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

While the all-electric Countryman will be the first to go on sale, its petrol and diesel counterparts will follow later.
