Mitsubishi teases Airtrek EV for China

Mitsubishi’s Shanghai booth did not have a single electric car on display, but the company still shared a couple of images showing a battery version of its Airtrek SUV designed exclusively for China.

Unfortunately, this is where the official information ends and speculation begins. There are two main theories as to what the identity of the car might be. According to one, the Japanese manufacturer may utilize the shared experience of Renault and Nissan to build a Nissan Ariya clone for China with the same selection of electric motors and batteries.

The other theory suggests that the Airtrek EV may be based on the same platform as the gas-powered Outlander model. The GAC-Mitsubishi factory has prior experience building similar models, including the E:Prototype that debuted at the Auto Shanghai not long ago based on HR-V units and components.
