Mitsubishi has come to the Japan Mobility Show with a minivan called D:X. The company declined comment, but it is obvious that the concept previews the next generation of the Delica, which has been in production for 16 long years now.
In its next design iteration, the MPV sports a distinct off-road appearance with rugged body kit parts all around, shortened overhangs and quite a bit of ground clearance. The company calls it the latest take on its ‘Dynamic Shield’ design language.
Compared to the current generation, the concept has T-shaped headlights with built-in image projectors, video cameras where side mirrors usually are, and an impressively large roof box. The purpose of the latter is unspecified, but we would expect it to be adequate for storing sports gear or a camping tent.
The interior offers six individual seats with footrests, shoulder support and Yamaha speakers in the headrests. The front passenger’s seat can swivel around to face the rest of the cabin.
Digital instruments are built into the hub of an angular steering wheel along with a small display. The main multimedia screen spans the entire width of the dashboard and can be used to project the video feed from an exterior camera, essentially getting the ‘transparent floor’ effect. The image gets augmented with real-time navigation data and other useful details, such as road surface condition.
The D:X Concept uses a hybrid powertrain with electric motors built into each wheel. No further details are available.
