Mitsubishi has unveiled the eK X EV, an all-electric Kei car set to go on sale in Japan in summer.
If the exterior strikes you as very familiar, that is because the car looks like a cartoon replica of the latest Mitsubishi Outlander, which hit a brick wall with its nose and then squeezed through a narrow gap. The manufacturer openly admits that the SUV was a major source of design inspiration for it, as SUVs traditionally are for Kei cars.
Coming in at just $14,000 USD after subsidies, the eK X EV is highly affordable. For their money, buyers get an electric car with up to 180 kilometers (112 miles) of range, which is considered more than enough for daily urban driving. Charging from a wall socket takes 8 hours. The motor maxes out at 64 PS (63 hp / 48 kW) and 195 Nm (144 lb-ft) of torque.
