Next-gen Mitsubishi L200/Triton hits rally track ahead of premiere

Mitsubishi hasn't even properly revealed the next iteration of the L200/Triton yet, but it sent it to the Asia Cross Country rally raid. The photos show a camouflaged pre-production version of the truck that the company plans to reveal on July 26, 2023.

As Mitsubishi stated before, it may make modifications to the street-legal version of the truck based on its performance in the race. The L200 racer shown here is nearly stock except for some rather minor design tweaks. It has reinforced suspension, extra ground clearance, wheels with beadlock protection, towing eyes and a snorkel. The engine benefits from a sportier turbo tune, and the interior gets racing seats along with a roll cage.

The Asia Cross Country track spans approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) across the lands of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The race will take place on August 13–19, 2023. It is considered one of the most challenging rallies worldwide, Mitsubishi points out, which explains why the company chose it for the pre-production test.

Other than that, the rally truck has all the design changes we have already seen on earlier teasers. There is a rectangular radiator grille with two-tier headlights at the front, and the marque’s older X-Style cues are nowhere to be found.
