The Japanese automaker has submitted a few intriguing trademark applications to the U.S. Patent Office.
These are “Montero” and “Lancer Sportback”. The former was the name of the Mitsubishi Pajero produced for the U.S. market until 2006. The latter represented a hatchback version of the Mitsubishi Lancer.
As is always the case with patent applications, they do not guarantee in any way that the cars will actually be released. For all we know, they may end up never used or used for new and completely different vehicles. Having said that, it will still be interesting to find out what Mitsubishi plans on doing with its old nameplates.
