Mitsubishi Outlander first details revealed

The Mitsubishi Outlander debuted in its current form eight years ago, and it looks like the long-anticipated update is finally coming in 2020. Following a few leaked spy images, the company has released some official bits of information about the next Outlander.

Apparently, the SUV now utilizes a new ‘Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi’ platform. The company does not provide any further details, so our best guess is that this refers to the chassis of the upcoming Nissan X-Trail.

The engine lineup remains likewise unannounced, but Mitsubishi assures us that the hybrid powertrain will continue to be available. As for the exterior, the next generation will borrow some stylistic cues from the Engelberg Tourer Concept.

Aside from the Outlander, the Japanese carmaker will be launching another, smaller crossover in the second half of 2020. Whether this implies the next-gen ASX or a brand-new model is uncertain.

Mitsubishi also plans to revamp its existing SUV lineup. Among other things, the Eclipse Cross series will drop the 2.2 TDI version, which has made up only 5% of the sales thus far. The 2020 ASX will also drop its diesel version over low demand.
