2022 Mitsubishi Outlander breaks cover in the USA, Europe to follow later

After nine long years on the market, the third-gen Mitsubishi Outlander has finally yielded its place to the next generation. What’s new and exciting?

As expected, the new SUV takes much after the GT-PHEV Concept dating back to 2016. This includes two-tier headlights, slim taillights, and sculpted sides. Cockpit highlights include a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital dash cluster, and improved overall trim.

As far as the dimensions go, the off-roader is 4,710 mm (15.45 ft.) long, 1,862 mm (6.11 ft.) wide and 1,748 mm (5.73 ft.) tall with 2,706 mm (8.88 ft.) between the axles. This makes it between 0.6 and 2 inches larger than the predecessor is in every dimension. The latest Nissan X-Trail provides the platform (CMF-C/D) and the tech. A 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine delivers 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) along with 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. The CVT has eight virtual gears, and the drive can be located on the front axle or both, the latter attainable via the S-AWC system.

Compared against its peers, the Outlander additionally benefits from a feature called Brake AYC, which gives it torque vectoring capacity via brakes.

A PHEV version, which was so popular in Europe in the third generation, will emerge later. For now, pre-orders for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander are only running in the USA. Only the seven-seater spec is available currently starting from U.S. $27,795.
