Mitsubishi Pajero set to retire in 2021

Mitsubishi began withdrawing its Pajero SUV from the market last year, first pulling it from Japan and then from some European countries. A press release from today confirms that the 40-year-long history of the off-road model is coming to an end in 2021.

The manufacturer hopes to be able to save up to 100 billion Japanese Yen (nearly a billion USD) by discontinuing the Pajero and dismantling the Pajero Manufacturing Factory in Sahagogi, Japan by 2023. The latter additionally assembles Delica and Outlander models, but neither of them is exclusive to that production location.

Nothing is being revealed about a possible successor to the Mitsubishi Pajero yet. If such a model appears in the near future, then chances are good it will be just a rebadged Nissan, like the latest Outlander.
