Arctic Trucks Russia began registering pre-orders for a custom Mitsubishi Pajero Sport conversion. Called the AT35, it features terrain-friendly chassis improvements and takes at least a month to build and obtain certificates for.
The suspension is reinforced and benefits from Old Man Emu springs and shocks. 17-inch wheels come wrapped in 35-inch all-rounder tires, the arches are flared, and the bumpers and mud flaps are different. All seams are made corrosion-proof, and the body sports some AT badging to tell everyone you aren’t driving a stock SUV.
This is not really necessary, however, because the car is noticeably wider and taller than stock anyway. In addition to having a wider track, it now has 270 mm (10.55 inches) of ground clearance, up from the standard 218 mm (8.5 inches).
Geometric performance is also improved with the approach and departure angles now at 34.5º and 28.8º, as opposed to just 30º and 24.2º, respectively. Turn radius now amounts to 6.3 meters (20.7 feet), up from the stock 5.9 m (19.4 feet).
The tuner works with both Russian variants of the SUV (watch the video for an example). One comes with a diesel engine rated at 181 PS (179 hp / 133 kW) and the other uses a naturally aspirated mill with 209 PS (206 hp / 154 kW). Transmission doesn’t matter.
Arctic Truck emphasizes that it undertakes to carry out all certification routines to make the cars street-legal, but the process takes at least 20 days. Another week is needed to procure the equipment necessary, plus a few days for the installation and tuning.
