Malaysian tuner helps Mitsubishi XPander identify as a rally racer

Minivans are unlikely rally cars, but the Mitsubishi XPander actually has just such a version in Indonesia, called the AP4. Malaysian tuning shop Speedline Industries drew inspiration from that model when it designed its own body kit for the vehicle.

The exterior styling could be considered a success. A pronounced front splitter, central air intake trims, visible underbody protection, headlight frames and a fake air scoop on the roof join efforts to convince the viewer that this particular XPander is a rally beast. New side skirts and extended wheel arches shine with black finish, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in performance rubber round off the image nicely.

Unfortunately, this is where the modifications end. The interior and, more importantly, the drivetrain stay stock. As such, the minivan still drives its front axle with a meager 105 PS (104 hp / 77 kW). The AP4 model mentioned above is far better off in this respect, utilizing a 1.6-liter turbo four-pot with 355 PS (350 hp / 265 kW) mated to an AWD system. But as impressive as it may look, the AP4 is a one-off design study with no production prospects in sight. So, if you want an MPV looking like this, you should probably ask Speedline Industries for a body kit.
