The London-based design headquarters of Chinese automotive corporation SAIC has shared images of what it called ‘R RYZR Concept’, or ‘the vehicle of the future’. It is a cross between a car and a bike that features a jacket for ignition key.
Design-wise, the vehicle is a four-wheeled with a pod cab, but no doors or roof. A single narrow pylon at the top doubles as a reinforcement beam, while occupants reside in cradles suspended from that pylon.
A special jacket serves as the electronic key fob, eliminating the need for a conventional key or even smartphone app: as soon as the car detects the owner wearing it in the vicinity, it will greet them and unlock controls. There is no comment on the practicality of this solution in changing weather.
The design team believes the R RYZR Concept can prove to be a compelling alternative to the overflowing public transit, as well as introduce people to a new level of driving enjoyment. No technical specifications have been revealed, except that it is an all-electric car. As a pure design study, it has no production prospects whatsoever.
