JLR to launch five new vehicles in 2020-2021

In accordance with the recently published release strategy for the next two years, Jaguar Land Rover will be launching five new models before the end of 2021. The first premiere will occur in September.

The company says all cars will be based on the MLA platform and will highlight the brand’s gradual switch to electric power. Mild and plug-in hybrids will be the first to arrive, followed by all-electric models later on.

The first premiere, scheduled for the IAA Frankfurt on September 12-22, 2019, will be dedicated to the next-generation Defender series (depicted here). The next one in line is the XJ, a new all-electric sedan/saloon flagship that will also be available as a gasoline hybrid.

The Jaguar J-Pace full-size SUV will premiere in 2021, and a brand-new all-electric SUV should follow later that year (presumably called the Road Rover). The next generation of the traditional Rover will also emerge before 2022.

It has to be noted that the two years to follow will be crucial for JLR. The company has lost £3.6 billion over the past year due to the steadily declining sales. The negative trend continued in 2019, with the Jaguar brand taking an 11% sales hit and Land Rover being even worse off with 13%.
