Toyota announces 2nd-gen Mirai

The hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai has never been particularly popular since its market launch in 2014, but the Japanese carmaker hopes to fix things by releasing another generation.

The main problem is that even in the countries that promote and subsidize eco-friendly vehicles, the Mirai is simply too expensive. For instance, at 60,000 USD, it costs almost three times as much as the Camry in the USA. Naturally, most would-be buyers cannot afford it.

Despite this, the company is optimistic about the upcoming second generation of the Mirai, even going as far as to claim that in ten years, hydrogen-powered cars would descend to the price point of modern hybrids. Of course, that would necessitate going through another generation, at least.

No design hints or technical specifications are available to date.
