Hyundai Veloster veers off the trodden path for SEMA

The Hyundai Veloster might be a strictly urban hatchback, but visitors to the impending SEMA show will have the pleasure of seeing it re-imagined as a badass off-roader.

The unique Hyundai Veloster Grappler features seriously tweaked suspension, Method Racing wheels, off-road tires, a heavy-duty front bumper with auxiliary lighting, and a Thule expedition rack with an integrated light bar and solar panels.

Inside are Recaro seats, a dedicated lighting control panel, and safety reinforcements. The equipment list also mentions a camping tent, a first aid kit, and a car repair toolkit.

Nothing is being said about the engine, although the exhaust system is a Borla. The hatchback-made-SUV likely comes powered by the two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Veloster N mill good for 275 hp (205 kW) and 353 Nm (260 pound-feet) of torque.
