The Hyundai iMax N Drift Bus is a… well, drift bus

The German subdivision of Hyundai played out an April Fool joke last year, announcing a drift-friendly ‘performance bus’ based on the Hyundai H-1. When everyone laughed, no one heard it when the Australian branch of the company said, ‘Hold my beer.’

The crazy mod will be present for everyone to gawk at at the upcoming World Time Attack Challenge in Sidney, Australia. It still has enough seats inside for up to eight passengers, but borrows the front seats and the steering wheel from its hot hatch brother, the i30 N. Other things of note include 19-inch wheels, sports tires, a front splitter straight out of a Nissan GT-R aero kit, a rear diffuser, and a blue livery that also strives to imitate the N line.

But there is more to it that just the looks. Powering the bus is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine sending 408 (304 kW) along with 555 Nm (409 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels by means of an eight-speed auto transmission. Despite weighing 2,200 kg (4,850 lbs), the minibus needs less than five seconds to rocket from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph).

But wait, the list is still far from complete. The RWD van boasts an added rear differential, lowered suspension, adaptive shocks, and new four-piston brakes. The end  result is a hardcore drift bus existing as a single specimen.

Understandably enough, there will be no mass release.
