Toyota’s Ultra Compact BEV won’t go past 60 km/h

Toyota will be bringing a new electric urban car prototype to the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, called the Ultra Compact BEV Concept.

The model will eventually hit mass production as an affordable EV for daily use in big cities. Tiny cornering angle is being advertised as one of its core features, especially useful on crowded streets and parking areas.

The powertrain specs remain undisclosed, but the manufacturer promises acceleration to 60 km/h (37.3 mph) at most and a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per charge. The two-seat cabin looks rather ascetical and devoid of excessive trim details, which should make it rather wallet-friendly.

When it hits the showrooms, the Utlra Compact BEV will be primarily marketed to novice drivers, elderly people, business people, and ride-sharing companies.
