Mercedes-Benz rolls out E-Class facelift

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Convertible have received their mid-life refresh heading into 2021. Exterior and interior changes are mostly analogous to those already seen on their sedan and estate counterparts, but the engines is where it gets interesting.

The facelifted E-Class comes with two diesel and three gasoline engines to choose from, the latter assisted by electric starters and rated between 194 and 367 hp (145 – 274 kW). Buyers of the E 200 and E 200 d have access to optional AWD, whereas the E 400 d and E 450 ship with the four-wheel drive by default. The E 300 sends its 258 hp (192 kW) to the rear axle with no other options on offer.

The company will be launching another spec later on based on a thoroughly reworked version of the two-liter diesel engine. This one will incorporate the main engine rated at 265 hp (198 kW) and an electric motor contributing 20 hp (15 kW) and 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) of its own.

The E 53 AMG has also made its debut, packing a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine good for 435 hp (324 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. AWD is listed as standard, and getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 4.4 seconds in the coupe and 4.6 s in the convertible version.

For the first time on record, the E 53 can be upgraded with the Dynamic Plus package that introduces Drift Mode (all torque gets redirected to the rear axle). Previously, the package used to be strictly limited to the top-of-the-line 63 series.
