Mitsubishi Mirage does 700,000 kilometers without breaking down once

A family from Minnesota bought a new Mirage compact hatchback for $13,000 in 2014. The car has since covered close to 700 thousand kilometers without requiring serious maintenance or part replacement.

The Mirage was the most affordable hatchback option in the United States six years ago. It came powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine linked to a CVT, hitting the wheels with 74 horsepower (55 kilowatts). The car has its wheel bearings replaced after around 240,000 km (150,000 miles) and received a new engine starter after another 160,000 km (100,000 miles). The owner still claims both its transmission and engine are in excellent condition.

A Mitsubishi dealership bought out the record-breaking vehicle to use it in advertisement, and sold the family a new Mirage at a substantial discount.
