Video: Listen to the first electric BMW M sing

As we reported before, BMW enlisted the help of famous musician and composer Hans Zimmer to produce a unique and memorable ‘engine’ soundtrack for its EVs, and here are some of the results.

Zimmer has been working with BMW’s own sound expert Renzo Vitale on the project. The duo has already endowed the Concept i4 and the Vision M NEXT with their own characteristic voices, and now the time has come to do the same with production cars: the i4 and the iX.

The i4 in particular is completely silent thanks to its highly efficient electric powertrain. According to Zimmer, this silence can be very comfortable to drive in, but it ultimately results in the driver becoming emotionally disconnected from the process. As such, accelerating and driving at different speeds has to be accompanied by different sounds in order to provide the driver with essential audial feedback.

There is precious little known about the BMW i4 to this date. Rumor has it that the car will pack 523 PS (516 hp / 385 kW) and get from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around four seconds.
