Did Tesla Model S just set a quarter-mile record?

A Canadian website dedicated to Tesla news posted a news article about a Tesla Model S Plaid liftback covering 402 meters (a quarter of a mile) in California in a record-breaking 9.23 seconds, reaching 244.88 km/h (152.16 miles per hour) at the finish line. The article was pulled shortly after being published.

It remains unknown whose initiative the race was and who piloted the car. Jay Leno was mentioned as one of the participants. It is reported that he ran the quarter in 9.5 seconds, likely because there were two people inside the car.

Tesla has made no official comment yet, but we will keep you updated if the record is confirmed.

The Bugatti Chiron Sport is currently the world’s fastest production car on the strip with 9.4 seconds quarter-mile time. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon shows 9.65 seconds on racing fuel.

The updated Tesla Model S Plaid packs triple electric motors and 1,020 horsepower, which enables it to reach 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in under two seconds. Prices in the United States begin from $118,490.
