Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV coming up in 2022

Mercedes-Benz will launch its next all-electric flagship – the SUV-shaped EQE – next year, followed by an even larger model a while after that.

The newcomer will target the same segment as the Tesla Model X and be based on the EVA2 platform of the EQS liftback. The chassis is made of aluminum, steel and carbon fiber to minimize weight. Powertrains aren’t being discussed at the moment, but you might be able to infer something from the model designations ‘EQE 300’ and ‘EQE 600’ the company patented not long ago.

Using a 100-kWh battery will enable the SUV to cover up to 692 kilometers (430 miles) on a single charge. Lower trim versions will probably be restricted to smaller battery sizes, though.

In other recent news, Mercedes announces a transition to all-electric powertrains set to finish by the beginning of the next decade. Daimler AG will be investing around €40 billion into EV research and development. That said, the company will only offer battery cars on the markets where they are viable.
