Volkswagen ID.5 driving range revealed

Volkswagen has shared some details pertaining to its upcoming ID.5 model, essentially a coupe-like/upmarket version of the ID.4. Here is what the sportier out of the two IDs gets.

There will be two specifications with one and two electric motors, respectively. The former is called just the ID.5 and has 540 kilometers (335 miles) of WLTP-rated driving range. The dual-motor version goes by the name ID.5 GTX and gets 497 km (308 miles) on a charge.

The regular ID.5 is scheduled for launch in Europe and China in the second half of 2021, probably sometime in October through December. The USA will get it no sooner than 2022, although the company might want to use its Chattanooga factory to expedite the production. The current-gen ID.4 is already being assembled there.

Prices in Europe will start at approximately €40,000, and it looks like Nissan Ariya and Tesla Model Y will be the main competitors of the VW ID.5 when it comes out.
