Alpha announces the Saga, a four-door retro EV

The Californian startup has two other EVs on its production schedule as well, but none on the streets so far.

The new Alpha Saga is an all-electric sedan inspired by cars from the 1970s. It is 4.7 meters long, 1.91 meters wide and 1.45 meters tall (184x75x57 inches). Old-fashioned exterior details go side-by-side with modern touches, such as concealed door handles and carbon-fiber trim pieces.

The inside space is wrapped in leather and houses a large floating multimedia display, as well as a HVAC unit stylized to look like a radio. The dashboard manages to combine displays with vintage warning lights, and there are belt loops where the door handles usually are.

Buyers will be offered a choice between RWD and AWD, Alpha says. Both will weigh in at around 1,905 kilos (4,200 lbs) and come equipped with an 85-kWh battery array rated for 483 kilometers (300 miles). Sprinting to highway speed will take six seconds, and the top speed will be capped at 200 km/h (124 mph).

Prices will lie in the $50,000 - $60,000 range, the company says. Pre-orders are already open, although the actual production date has yet to be agreed upon.

Alpha’s other two projects are a two-seater electric pickup named the Wolf and a coupe dubbed the Ace. Neither has any specific launch date at the moment.
