Nissan unveils a quarter of show cars

During a press conference in Japan, Nissan has revealed its brand strategy until 2030 saying it would focus on electric cars first and foremost.

Before the next decade begins, the company will have launched at least 15 new EVs and 8 hybrids. Battery cars will account for 50% of all Nissan and Infiniti vehicles produced worldwide.

We already have four design studies to get an idea of what that future will be like. The Chill-Out Concept, which the company first showed us on a teaser in summer, is the only one that exists in metal right now. It is envisioned as a production car based on the same CMF platform as the Ariya, but priced below it and running on a new powertrain called e-4orce. Self-driving and a comfortable, spacious interior are both on the feature list. It remains to be announced when it might ship, but Nissan apparently has big plans for the Chill-Out Concept, saying its production version will sell 100,000 units per year.

The other three vehicles only exist on 3D renderings so far. There is a small roadster called Max-Out, a high-riding pick-up truck named Surf-Out, and a picnic-friendly crossover SUV dubbed Hang-Out. The truck has no fixed partition wall between the bed and the cab, making it suitable for transporting larger, longer cargo, while the SUV offers vast interior customization opportunities.
