Rolls-Royce announces reveal date of history’s second most expensive car

Rolls-Royce has announced a presentation of the second Boat Tail luxury car on May 20. Carscoops believes the event will take place at a Concours d’Elegance in Italy.

The first Boat Tail (see photos and video) was built to order and debuted in last May. The company never disclosed the price, but rumors circulated that it amounted to $28 million, which would make the Boat Tail the most expensive new car in history.

Speaking at the presentation, A Rolls-Royce representative pointed out that the Boat Tail would not be completely unique. Instead, the Coachbuild subdivision would make three examples and personalize each one in accordance with the clients’ wishes. The first car was stylized after a sail yacht and outfitted like a family touring car with a picnic set in the trunk.

It is implied that the second Boat Tail will be technically similar with its own exterior and cabin styling, as well as a different set of accessories. Upon the request of its anonymous buyer, the third and final car will not be shown to the public at all.

Names of the clients are kept confidential, but rumors abounded in 2021 that the original Boat Tail went to Jay-Z and Beyonce. We do not have any further proof, however.

Like all other new Rolls-Royces, this one comes based on the aluminum Architecture of Luxury chassis and uses a 6.75-liter V12 Phantom engine for propulsion. The output amounts to 571 PS (563 hp / 420 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.
