BMW X5 M60i mild hybrid shows up testing for the first time

The current-gen BMW X5 (see video) went into production in late 2018, and has awaited a scheduled refresh ever since. We have already seen facelifted prototypes run around in camo, but never a performance version like this.

The car pictured here comes equipped with an S68 series engine, a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 assisted by a 48-volt electric motor. The system outputs 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

During its planned refresh, the SUV landed with a new radiator grille surrounded by slimmer headlamps and a different front bumper with a reshaped air intake in the middle. The taillights also received new light patterns, by the look of it.

Interior novelty will most likely boil down to the latest version of the iDrive 8 infotainment system. As for the launch date, reports say ‘sometime in early 2023’ is the likeliest estimate.
