This rare Ferrari is #2 out of 3 in existence, and it could fetch up to $3M

The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona pictured in the photo gallery here was the second out of three pre-production test vehicles the Maranello-based automaker built in the late 1960s. Its sheer rarity and good condition make experts believe it could fetch between $2.25 and $3 million USD at an auction scheduled for later this month.

The test mule runs on the 275 GTB/4, but looks neither like that model nor like the finalized 365 model. Its interior layout is also quite bizarre and experimental.

Unlike the standard 365 GTB/4 Daytona, which comes powered by the 4.4-liter modification of the Colombo V12 engine, the test mule makes do with its earlier and smaller (3.3-liter) version called Tipo 226.

The car has changed ownership multiple times, but almost all of them were either connected with Ferrari in some way or car collectors. For the past 25 years, it has stayed in possession of one and the same person, and even has a Ferrari Classiche certificate to show for being in authentic condition.
