Rest your eyes on this gorgeous McLaren F1 with unique headlights

A 24-year-old McLaren F1 will go on sale in late August expected to fetch a tidy sum thanks to belonging to a series of just 64 road-legal units and being the only example with BMW-sourced headlights.

Apparently, McLaren produced the car with the chassis no. 059 specifically to troubleshoot limited visibility of the road when driving the F1 at nighttime. It turned out that early F1 supercars did a poor job illuminating the road ahead, posing a security risk. To counteract the issue, the British automaker came up with a different, more compact headlight design with the lamps borrowed from the BMW Z1 shelf.

However, later on the company discovered a better solution that enabled it to improve the illumination without redesigning the front end of the F1, the headlight housings or the lamps themselves. The number 059 ended up being the only F1 in existence to have this unique lighting design.

Elsewhere, the example on sale has a full aerodynamic kit for increasing downforce and comes with a clean record mentioning two owners and 42,400 kilometers (26,346 miles) of use.

There are no price estimates at the moment.
