Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul breaks cover in Hannover

Mercedes-Benz Trucks came to the commercial transports show in Hannover with a prototype of the all-electric eActros LongHaul, a semi-truck announced in early summer. While still a concept at this point, we already know it can cover over 500 km (310 miles) on a charge, along with some other characteristics.

The manufacturer says the production version of the truck will utilize lithium-ferro-phosphate batteries thanks to their longest lifespan. With a battery pack like this, the vehicle will be usable over a period of approximately 10 years, covering around 1,200,000 kilometers (~745,645 miles) before a replacement becomes necessary.

The capacity of the pack is estimated at 600 kilowatt-houts. Charging it from 20 to 80 percent will succeed in just 30 minutes, because work is already underway on high-power charging terminals (up to 1 MW).

In turn, Trailer Dynamics and Krone are busy developing ‘e-Trailer’ semi attachments to the truck, complete with their own built-in motors and batteries. Hooking onto such a trailer would extend the range to around 800 kilometers (497 miles).

Dual electric motors powering the car exert 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW), but may briefly put out 816 PS (805 hp / 600 kW) when necessary. The first motorized prototypes will hit the roads later this year; in 2023, a number of partner companies will receive cars for real-world testing. The mass-market version will go into production in 2024.
