Check out a 1930s-era automobile driven by a huge propeller

The YouTube team of Barcroft Cars has posted a video dedicated to the Helicron, a highly unique vehicle from the last century’s thirties that relied on an air propeller for forward movement.

The car is roughly 4.2 meters (13.8 feet) long with the fan assembly at the front measuring 1.2 meters (nearly 4 feet) in diameter. The steering succeeds thanks to the rear wheels, because the front ones lack turning radius due to the prop.

The Helicron was discovered sitting abandoned in a barn somewhere in France in the 2000s. It was subsequently fully restored – the new owners claimed they were miraculously able to procure some original spare parts, despite the sheer age and rarity of the car. Of course, they had to fabricate a lot from scratch as well.

Powering the unique find is a new Citroen combustion engine. The original two-cylinder that drove this particular Helicron proved beyond salvation.
