Witness the Kia EV6 GT tear up the autobahn in near-silence

The GT spec is as high as you can get in the Kia EV6 range, and the automaker’s first truly high-performance electric vehicle. The spec sheet claims it can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and max out at 260 km/h (161 mph), but what does it feel like in the real world? This video by AutoTopNL provides the definitive answer.

The action takes place on a German speedway with no top speed limitation. Once the driver floors the accelerator pedal, a slight humming of the drivetrain can be heard, but is quickly silenced by the whistle of the wind and tire rustle.

With a combined output of 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque from its two motors, the EV6 GT breaks no sweat at all as it goes from standing still to riding at highway speed. Most of the video has the driver going above 160 km/h (100 mph). Whenever the lane becomes empty, he takes the car to even greater accelerations – and manages to exceed the manufacturer-rated top speed in doing so. Favorable wind and a gently sloping landscape must have helped the car go beyond its maximum, but there is no denying it being impressive in any situation.
