New Mercedes-AMG GT to get four seats, 843 PS

The next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe will come equipped with one of the best AMG-designed powertrains in existence, CarBuzz reports along with posting yet another bunch of spy photos. The car will apparently also up its seat count from two to four.

According to CarBuzz, the images show an exposed rear end of the new GT with four diamond-shaped exhaust tips and a charging port in the rear bumper. We have only seen these design traits on the AMG GT 63 S E Performance liftback when it debuted, and it had the hybrid powertrain mentioned above.

Specifically, a 4.4-liter V8 and a rear-axle motor combine efforts for 843 PS (831 hp / 620 kW) and 1,470 Nm (1,084 lb-ft) of torque. Powered like this the large five-door liftback was able to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds despite its sheer weight. Should the coupe get the same output, it can be expected to go even faster.

It is assumed that the new AMG GT is being developed on the same architecture as the AMG SL, which underwent the transformation from roadster into convertible in its latest generation. CarBuzz says the interior layout is largely identical to the SL – it can be tricky to see in the photos, but there is a second seat row. The photographer who snapped the images said there wasn’t much camo, suggesting a full reveal coming soon.
