Ferrari Roma drops top in new Spider version

Ferrari has introduced a soft-top variant of its Roma coupe, which is essentially destined to phase out the retiring Portofino M. The manufacturer offers a couple of color options for the top – dark red and black.

Like the standard coupe, the Spider only has enough seating for two adults. The rear row barely has room for children – and it still looks cramped. On a brighter note, unlike its fixed-top counterpart, the Spider at least has the decency to offer headrests to those squeezed in the back.

From the technical perspective, there is no difference between the soft-top and the stationary-top Roma. Both utilize a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 620 PS (612 hp / 456 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed DCT.

Tipping the scales at 1,556 kilos (3,430 pounds), the Spider weighs 84 kg (185 pounds) more than the coupe does. It goes from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a breezy 3.4 seconds.
