SsangYong is officially called KG Mobility now
Car manufacturer SsangYong has officially renamed itself as ‘KG Mobility’ following the last year’s merger with KG Group. According to Yonhap News (South Korea), the decision to rename the brand was met at a shareholder meeting.
The newly born KG Mobility plans to expand its operations by also selling cars with ‘used’ titles in addition to new ones.
Per the company, the new brand name reflects its dedication to implementing modern mobility technologies. These mainly include electric powertrains, semi-autonomous driving systems and proprietary AI tech.
As one would expect, there was no mention of the word “cagey” during the meeting. That said, earlier names the company went through in the past included ‘Dong-hwan Motor’ and ‘Dong-A Motor’, so perhaps ‘KG Mobility’ isn’t so unfortunate, after all.
The first production car to don the badge will be the Torres EVX (see the video below), an SUV slated for reveal on Thursday, March 30.
