Volkswagen will be celebrating the Polo GTI model turning 25 years old with the launch of a limited Edition 25. Only 2,500 cars will be made available with distinct accents and extra trim options. Reservations in Europe will be accepted starting on June 1 from €35,025 – mere €2,000 above the standard Polo GTI.

The whole anniversary theme apparently boils down to special graphics along the side sills and the lettering ‘One of 2500’ on the kick plates. Less obvious are blacked-out accents such as 18-inch wheels, roof and side mirror caps.

In its most basic implementation, the hot hatch will get Matrix headlights, comfortable seats trimmed in red-and-black leather and an eight-inch infotainment display. The list of options includes a package called Travel Assist, which can take over control over the car at accelerations below 210 km/h (130 mph).

In technical terms, the novelty is no different from stock. The Polo GTI received its latest update two years ago and comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo rated at 207 PS (204 hp / 152 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is seven-speed DCT. The suspension height is 15 mm (0.6 in) lower than stock, and the front axle benefits from an XDC electronic diff lock.
