BMW updates its 3.0L diesel, introduces power saving mode for EVs

BMW has made improvements in its B57 3.0-liter turbo diesel and designed new features for electric cars aimed at maximizing their range while speeding up charging.

New pistons and fuel injectors enabled the B57 to produce 352 PS (347 hp / 259 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque, representing a gain of 12 PS (12 hp / 9 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) over the old version. The first models to get the updated engine will be the BMW X5 and X6 made in August 2023. The rest of the fleet will follow suit later.

As for the electric cars, the i7 and iX received a new powertrain mode called Max Range, which turns off all unnecessary power-hungry features and introduces a motor power limit. In the best-case scenario, drivers can expect 25% power savings in this mode.

Last but not least, both EVs now begin to charge up automatically as soon as you insert the plug into the socket – no need to launch a dedicated mobile app first.
