Volkswagen says it will go to any length to avoid discount wars

The Volkswagen brand will avoid getting entangled in the EV price wars ongoing in China ‘at all costs’, Reuters reports quoting the CEO of VW China.

Two versions of the Volkswagen ID.6 pictured here are on sale exclusively in that country right now, where they are assembled at the factories co-owned between VW, FAW and SAIC. For many years, Volkswagen had enjoyed the status of the biggest producer of light passenger cars in China. However, the situation has begun to change lately with BYD Auto coming to the foreground in Q1 2023 with more than 440,000 EVs sold.

Speaking in an interview with Reuters, the boss of VW China said the German automotive corporation still maintained a strong position on the local market and was resolved to avoid abrupt cost-cutting, as it would accomplish little besides lowering profits.
