Skoda sends 2nd-gen Kodiaq into production

The Skoda factory in Kvasiny, Czech Republic is churning out a pilot batch of the second-generation Kodiaq SUV, the manufacturer reports along with showing us a photo of the finalized bodywork.

The new Kodiaq – which will ship as a hybrid for the first time on record – will not be fully introduced until the fall, and the sales are only scheduled to begin in 2024. In the meantime, the company is testing out its new and upgraded factory facilities that it plans to spend a total of €12,000,000 on.

When completed, the industrial complex will incorporate an improved chassis assembly line along with a modified main conveyor. It will also employ state-of-the-art robotic manipulators to apply window glue. Once at its full capacity, the complex will be able to churn out up to 410 vehicles per day.

One of the main goals of the upgrade is to get the plant ready for the production of hybrids, particularly the Kodiaq iV. Details are still lacking on that one.

The original Kodiaq came out in the fall of 2016 and has since sold over 800,000 units worldwide.
