Jaguar rereleases its victorious E-Type model

Jaguar has unveiled two new E-Type models – a coupe and a roadster. Both represent nearly complete replicas of their predecessors dating back to 1961 and will emerge in a production run of just 14 units. The coupe comes bundled with the roadster in a package called Collection ZP, so buying one without the other is impossible.

The rerelease is inspired by the classic vehicles that let Jaguar score racing victories in the past. The original E-Type (see video) was introduced at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 1961. A month later, two roadsters piloted by Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori hit the Outhlon Park Trophy racetrack.

Although the race was organized exclusively among open cars, Jaguar said it received feedback from clients who wanted a coupe modification as well, so it settled on the idea to produce both and sell them side-by-side.

According to the press release, each car comes finished in a period-correct color and equipped with spoked wheels. The steering wheel rim is made out of wood and numerous design cues make the continuation series look similar to the originals.

Having said that, it does offer some modern comforts as well. The interior is trimmed with deluxe leather, an infotainment system is included and the whole cabin is decorated with assorted embroidered and embossed images, including Collection ZP logos, racing circuit maps, and quotes of famous racing drivers.

Powering the series is an improved version of the classic 3.6-liter engine. Electronic ignition and a more convenient five-speed manual gearbox should make driving easier for the latest generation of Jaguar fans. A retro-inspired racing helmet is included, too.
