Citroen 2CV wooden replica fetches an all-time high price for the model

An auction sale in France culminated with a wooden recreation of the legendary Citroen 2CV changing hands for €210,000. According to Carscoops, the highest the real car had ever sold for before was €40,000 below that amount.

The car was built in the early 2010s and consists nearly completely out of natural wood. Carpenter Michel Robillard spent over 5,000 hours perfecting its every detail, using cherry, pear and apple tree timber for the bodywork and ensuring that every panel was as close to the original as possible. He even went the extra mile to produce a wooden dashboard and a matching steering wheel. The seats are still draped in fabric, though, and there is a cloth top.

From the technical standpoint, the replica runs on 1969 Citroen Dyane underpinnings and uses the 602cc engine of the Citroen 3CV. The seller says it is functional and can hit 80 km/h (50 mph), but has not been made street-legal yet.

The buyer is an owner of a museum in France, which could partially explain the price.
