Chinese carmaker Nio has recently applied for the rights to a new car name, “EF9”. The choice is quite puzzling, because all mundane Nio models belong to either 6, 7, or 8 Series. The only 9 Series model out there is the EP9, a hypercar rated at 1,360 HP (1,000 kW) and 1,480 Nm (1,092 lb-ft) of torque.
Rumor has it that the EF designation has nothing to do with supercars and instead denotes a minivan, or MPV. The first model should come out later this year.
The Nio Eve Concept featured in our gallery and the video here should provide a clear idea of what to expect – if the rumors are true. It is also reported that the car boasts flexibly dimmable windows and sliding rear doors.
Chinese media also theorize that the EF9 will be a high-end minivan model with sports car-like acceleration.
