Hulking Nio NS9 crossover shows up in a teaser

Chinese automaker Nio has partly revealed its full-size SUV flagship called the NS9. In the short video, the vehicle can be seen running its pre-production tests in a snowy environment, showcasing the automaker’s latest-and-greatest in suspension tech.

According to Nio, the NS9 features a stability control system called SkyRide that enables it to stay in the lane even after bursting a wheel at 150 km/h (93 mph). In terms of handling, the company claims it does no worse than the much-smaller Nio Firefly.

The premiere remains slated for April 9, 2026. The NS9 is about to become China’s largest SUV on sale with a body length of 5,365 mm (209.6 inches) and a wheelbase of 3,250 mm (127 inches). That’s bigger than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan by both counts.

The first version of the NS9 to reach the showrooms will feature an all-electric powertrain with 707 PS (697 hp / 520 kW) and up to 620 km (385 miles) of range. Considering how much more popular hybrids are these days compared to “pure” battery EVs, we cannot rule out a hybrid variant of the NS9 arriving further down the line. On the other hand, Nio has always prided itself on being an all-electric car manufacturer, so it may want to stick to that policy for reputation purposes.

All pricing remains to be announced. Nio’s current flagship, the ET9 sedan, starts from 768,000 Yuan on its domestic market. That’s 111,620 USD at the current conversion rates. We can imagine the SUV costing a fair bit more.
