Nissan Project Clubsport 23, a concept car based on the Nissan 370Z, will celebrate its premiere at the SEMA Auto Show opening later today in the United States. The sporty coupe has received a slew of visual and technical upgrades and will eventually become available in select Nissan dealerships throughout the world.
The base for the car is the 2012 Nissan 370Z Nismo that originally ships with a 3.7-liter, 350-hp (261-kW) engine on board. The Clubsport version ditches it for a 3.0-liter bi-turbo engine capable of 400 hp (298 kW).
Despite numerous technical difficulties, the engineer team decided to stick with the original six-speed manual transmission the car came with. This necessitated a number of workarounds, since the new engine wasn’t meant to work with manual gearboxes.
They also reworked the air intake system, the brakes and the suspension, and replaced the stock wheels with an 18-inch NISMO RAYS set.
On the exterior, the coupe now sports an all-carbon body kit. The interior follows the general design theme of the classical Nissan 240Z sports car.
That said, the project is still a work in progress. Once complete, the team plans to offer individual options separately, so that sports car enthusiasts may build their own vehicle.
