Nissan patents ‘IMQ’ and ‘IMS’, must be the new all-electric line

As it turns out, Nissan has recently applied for registration of the trademarks ‘IMQ’ and ‘IMS’ with the European Patent Office. Given that the company unveiled all-electric concepts titled ‘IMx’ and ‘IMx Kuro’ at the Geneva International Motor Show this spring, there’s little doubt that these abbreviations correspond to the mass-produced car models based on these concepts.

The letters ‘IM’ stand for ‘Intelligent Mobility’, Nissan’s new design philosophy which prioritizes such values as self-driving and electrified powertrains. It remains unclear just what the ‘S’ and ‘Q’ suffixes mean, though. Our best guess is ‘Sport’ and ‘Crossover’, respectively, but this could be wrong.

The IMx Kuro Concept shown at the latest Geneva fair had a flat, same-height floor design that made it look and feel like a small living room on wheels. It came equipped with two electric motors jointly capable of 435 hp (324 kW) and a battery rated for 600 kilometers (375 miles) of uninterrupted driving.
